New Products - Product Improvements

Goldmund pre-announces its first Digital Amplifier.

In a recent presentation in Geneva, Goldmund unveiled a new option for its Mimesis 29.4 flagship mono amplifier : the Digital Input module. Replacing on the back panel the analogue input module, the new Digital input module allows the Mimesis 29.4 to be directly driven by an SPDIF signal.

The main application will only become obvious when the full Goldmund top PC-Theater system integrates a computer for digital signal processing controlling several channels. Instead of using separate D/A converters and then run the signal in analogue, the user will have the possibility to run some of the channels in digital up to the amplifier where it will be converted just before amplification, providing a tighter control of the signal integrity.

With direct digital input, the Goldmund top amplifiers will also be usable in multi-amping systems where the crossover can be designed in the digital domain with better chances to keep the time accuracy undamaged.

Mimesis 29.4

The new input module is scheduled to be available by middle 1998, approximately when the first computers applications should be ready, as well as the full Epilogue system. For further details of these new applications, we strongly encourage our readers, distributors and dealers to familiarize themselves by visiting the renewed “Products” section of our web site.

The availability of the last Anniversary Reference Turntable

Still available guys, the LAST GOLDMUND TURNTABLE ! A collector item, musical pleasure and indisputable status symbol. We will close the bidding by late March. Hurry up!

Goldmund changes its position Vs the (so-called) ATT Optical Digital Link.

During last months, Goldmund has shown a new interest for the ST optical fiber standard (called ATT by Audio illiterate Manufacturers). The main reason of the previous refusal of this standard on Goldmund equipment was the very poor transmission quality reached using the other manufacturers standard equipment (emitter, receivers, fiber itself and its termination quality).

However, having experimentally tested a new circuit for the termination adapters and having now access to the highest quality Glass Fiber manufactured in California by Precision Audio, Goldmund had to change its position. The Glass Fiber connection, made that way, is the best link ever tested in Digital by our company, period.

Of course it is awfully expensive, using more power supply circuitry than the rest of the units themselves, is mechanically difficult to implement, etc… But, guys, it sounds better !

Don’t expect us to generalize this standard to the lowest cost units where it doesn’t not belong, but expect to see it in our future top models as the recommended standard and not as an option anymore. In the meantime we have it available as an option on the Mimesis 20 and the Mimesis 36/39.

The latest Mimesis SRM review in Fi Magazine

Fi Magazine, with the signature of Jonathan Valin well known for the quality of its reviews, published in the March issue a very detailed and favorable test of the Goldmund SRM Mono amplifier. Not only is Jonathan Valin qualifying our baby amp as the best over his beloved tube references, but he also (and this is the first time in Goldmund amplifier reviews history) comes close to understand a well kept secret of the Goldmund technology. It proves not only the quality of his listening capabilities, but a very accurate feeling about the technology behind it. Congratulations, Jonathan !

And of course for our readers, for our dealers and distributors, we strongly encourage them to read and use this remarkable review, available on our web site.
