New Products - Product Improvements
The 1st of July Revolution
The new “Universal Preamplifier” concept introduced by Goldmund last year with the Mimesis 24 is finding an even stronger defender with the first deliveries made today of the Mimesis 30. With only(?) 16 channels outputs and 7 inputs, the Mimesis 30 is more affordable but in no way less performing. The master circuit is in fact strictly the same, and so is the critical part of the software.
Now, lets repeat it once more :
- The Mimesis 30 is essentially a phenomenal UNIVERSAL PREAMPLIFIER. It may be used as 2-channel preamp and sounds better than any existing preamp (but the Mimesis 24). Receiving analogue and digital sources, it is also extremely versatile with analogue 6-channel and 2-channel inputs, digital inputs in ATT, Toslink, RCA and XLR format.
- The Mimesis 30 allows you to migrate your 2-channel system to a multi-channel system at any time WITHOUT CHANGING any of the existing equipment, just by adding amps and speakers. So you do not loose any of the 2-channel sound quality you love. In fact you improve it by improving the Preamp sound dramatically.
- The Mimesis 30 is AUTOMATICALLY changing from 2-channel to Multi-channel its outputs if you have a mixed configuration and you change in your player a CD for a DVD in Dolby or DTS. No manipulation is needed.
- The Mimesis 30 let you put ANY NUMBER (up to 16) of speaker to create a more realistic surround than any other unit in the market.
- The Mimesis 30 allows you to locate the speakers ANYWHERE you (or your wife, or your decorator) want. Forget the magic 60 or 120 degrees angles, or any other constraint you suffered before.
- The Mimesis 30 is a REVOLUTION in multi-channel sound quality. The Goldmund multi-channel decoder dramatically improves over the traditional DTS or Dolby decoding circuit used in all the Multi-channel processors existing today (even the most expensive ones costing twice more). In fact the first users report that they found some film sound in multi-channel better than any 2-channel CD they had before…
Want to Enjoy it ? Don’t Touch it !
The ESD protection applied by our factory for the latest products like the Mimesis 24 and the Mimesis 30 is only aimed at protecting the High-technology circuits used in those products against the danger of static shock during assembly.
The new advanced technology uses highest density circuits and components that may not only be destroyed by static during assembly, but worse can become defective later after been installed for a few weeks if they have received a static shock initially.
When the equipment is finally assembled, this risk virtually disappears. However, it may still be dangerous to open the cover and touch the circuits when not properly protected against ESD.
For this simple reason we require the various Goldmund Service Departments which could be involved in servicing these equipment to have a specially prepared anti-ESD service position.
And for our Goldmund customer it means they have to avoid opening the products themselves or having them serviced by a non-authorized technician. Extreme performance needs extreme technology needs extreme care….
AC-Curator replaced by the Goldmund Sweeter
The JOB aficionados have used it for long and lots of Goldmund customers were using it too. The Goldmund AC-Curator, expensive, bulky and less practical to locate was getting less and less attraction and usually replaced by 3 x Sweeter. So we did it, we made the Sweeter our only line conditioner under the Goldmund name. Available from stock.

What is the real power of Goldmund amplifiers ?
The Goldmund fans have always been asking for the “real power” of their Goldmund amplifiers, confused by the various standard and the various published figures. In fact, most of existing norms are totally useless to represent the “real” power of an audio amplifier in its real usage. Music been made of transients, essentially, Goldmund has always been measuring an amp by its capacity to deliver a short transient. We called it the “Power before clipping at 8 Ohms”, but it was too imprecise.
Finally, the Goldmund research team decided to create a norm that anybody could use with a simple equipment and which could be considered reasonably representative of the amp capability. Here is a brief description of our measurement technique :
- The amp is loaded by 8 Ohms, 4 Ohms or 2 Ohms pure resistors, high wattage.
- The signal sent is a burst of one sinus period, 10kHz with a repetition factor of 100Hz (we use an HP 33120A generator)
- The signal amplitude is raised until distortion climbs to 0.1%
- The Power is then the measure made on the resistor with an oscilloscope (we use a Tektronix TDS2024)
- The AC voltage reference is set to 117/234V and controlled during the measure.
This is it. Now you know what we do when we tell you that the Mimesis 29.4 is capable of 610W/8Ohms before clipping on transient.
Goldmund visited by Robb Report
The latest issue of “Home Entertainment” published by Robb Report shows the Goldmund House of Los Angeles in its front cover. And the editor in chief, Brent Butterworth signs a very good article about Goldmund in this issue, showing an understanding of our technology and products we rarely see in the international press outside of Southeast Asia. Thank you Brent.
