New Products - Product Improvements

Millennium, Millennium, Millennium !!!

The recent French and Japanese first press presentations of the new Goldmund Millennium Amplifier have given to a few happy listeners the first occasion to appreciate the fabulous new Goldmund Amp sound quality.

If the computer driven amplifier has obviously given good indication to the participants on the impressive technological advance of Goldmund in the traditionally old-fashioned Audio High End industry, it’s indisputably the sound quality improvement which created the surprise.

Knowing that only few small changes have been made to the amplifier schematics, the phenomenal sound improvement surprised even the Goldmund team members.

Since subscription is not yet closed and some are still trying to sell back their previous amps, we do not want to insist too much. But if you can afford it, you better act fast. Remember there will only be 100 pieces made of this jewel. Remember also that, considering the cost of the parts used in the Millennium and the numerous hours of hand tuning needed, there is not much chance the same quality could be reached again soon or at a lower price…

What are our DVD secrets ?

Easy Line DVD

We did not much explained what we were doing in our first DVD unit, the Goldmund Easy DVD. By introducing it in the SR line, we shown no special ambition to make it a market killer or to claim our technology was better. However, we are very happy to report that the first test of this machine made by pre-production model users is extremely favorable. Tested against the Ayre and the top Pioneer AX10 model in two top video systems it displayed a superior image quality, very high digital audio quality and a quite satisfactory CD sound also despite the traditional disadvantages of the DVD transports in such a mode.

What is original in this machine and explaining such a result ? Not much. Facing the gigantic invasion of pseudo-technical arguments by most Japanese manufacturers and the poor results of their top machines, we are tempted to say we did nothing, but did it right ! Everybody knows we use a Pioneer base, quite a good one. Everybody knows we improved some mechanical details and changed the power supply. OK, nothing revolutionary here either.

So what makes it so good ? You will know probably more when we release information on the second DVD model of our line, at Mimesis 36/39 level.

For the time being, just enjoy our latest baby….

Goldmund Powercords not available anymore

We are facing an unexpected and blocking situation to continue the production of our Goldmund Powercord family. The supplier of the cable itself has canceled without prior notice its distribution of this type of wire and there is no hope to find exactly the same wire in a close future from any of our usual suppliers. Consequence : the Goldmund powercord is over and we see no solution to replace it in a close future.

US Dollar exchange rate and parts rising prices induce a Goldmund price increase by January 1st

With the recent lack of electronic components worldwide, the US dollar change and the furious price rise of top mechanical raw materials like aluminum and metacrylate, we had no way to postpone it further. We had to readjust our export prices by a significant percentage to keep producing in good conditions most of our products. Watch our Internet prices in CHF to know more about it.

In most countries, this will have none or a negligible effect, since the Swiss Franc dropped in an even bigger proportion. It will not either change our growing advantage over our mostly-dollar-based competitors. It will only annoy slightly some of our distributors and customers located in Europe and suffering of the same problems. Sorry for them. The economy of their country is responsible of this price change, not us.

The new prices will be valid starting January 1st but we will continue accepting orders till then at the old prices, even if we cannot deliver before January first.

However, this will not solve the dramatic components scarcity we are currently suffering and which continue pushing our delay of some models (like D/A converters) to sky-high limits

We have to stop support on some historic Goldmund products

Being a very old company in this high-end audio business has its advantages, you know, like having a serious distribution network, product stability, etc… However it also has its drawbacks. Like some of our early products being so old now, that they are becoming literally impossible to maintain in good shape.

And this is the bad news, guys : there are some old Goldmund products that, depite our best goodwill, we cannot repair anymore. Components which disappeared from the market, or subcontractors who died in the meantime are forcing us to refuse service on some of our oldest products.

Among those the most troubling ones are the early Studio and Studietto turntables for which the famous German Motor manufacturer Pabst is not giving any service anymore so we cannot repair their motors. The early T3 tonearms for which some electronic components cannot simply be replaced so the repair would be a rebuild and would cost more than the original product did. Or some of the drivers made by JM Lab (Focal is the old name) and which they canceled from their production line, so if you own a Goldmund Apologue or an Analogue you may have to wait for your burned drivers to be repaired rather than replaced.

We are really sorry for this situation, but we had to tell you. It is always tough to admit that some product we made in the past are now valueless. But it is the truth.
