The Mimesis 18.4 breaks all records
After its introduction in last October, the Mimesis 18.4 has been presented in Japan for the Stereo Sound Grand Prix 2003 (which it won !) and in many occasions in the USA, including during the Las Vegas recent CES. From the various listening sessions and comparisons made it appears we made another winner.
First, sound quality is judged by all listeners as significantly superior to the last Mimesis 28.4 and 28M and even when compared to the 29M and 29.4M, there seem to be some improvement.
Why is that ?
Most Goldmund fans already wonder about a JOB 5 circuit and require clarification from our part on that point…
This is not the case, guys ! The Mimesis 18,4 is using the same JOB module as the other models of this line and a generation change is not the source of the better sound quality.
Rather, improvements have been made to the input circuit and the power supply, consecutive to a study made by our Analogue R&D team recently. Of course, we won’t tell you how they did it…
The result is more open, more sweet and more detailed again.
The second very noticeable advantage is the universality of the power amplifier. Any input type can be used, analogue balanced, analogue unbalanced, digital, all of them with a 7-step high-precision level adjustment. The digital input has a digital output associated, so two amps can be linked on a single digital line, a practical advantage in multi-channel system, minimizing costly wiring. The amplifier is using the latest version of our auto-starting signal sensing circuit, so you will never have to turn it off. Each amp can be set with a sequencer that avoids that all the amps in a system start at the same instant with incoming modulation , which would unavoidably trigger a breaker in the house !. As with most Goldmund amps, the ground path is also very cautiously set and can be adjusted to allow a perfect star grounding system and zero noise.
The power supply uses 4 separate transformers, the two main power ones exactly set at 90 degrees from each other to neutralize spurious fields. The analogue audio supply is totally separated from the digital audio one and from the logic power supply which feeds the microprocessor managing amps functions, safety circuits, etc… The analogue audio power supply is very much similar to the one used in the Goldmund Millennium, with a few innovative devices.
And finally, the amplifier is much better protected against any kind of outside perturbation : signal detection for HF oscillation or DC offset shutting down the speakers and the amp inputs to protect them, double shielding of the power supply both magnetically and for high frequencies, using a new cover design. A new cooling principle is also used forcing ventilation without a fan with perforated bottom and top cover.
So, with all these features and the incredible sound quality provided, there are many reasons why in 3 months, the Mimesis 18.4 has become our top selling product.

Goldmund Factory Computer Network moves to Linux
Despite having built a high reputation to our IT department by developing some of the most advanced application ever used in such a small company, we were still suffering of the typical Windows idiosyncrasies which makes it the most unpractical and unreliable system in the world, even if the most used…
So for the IT fans, great news : we recently switched our network control to Linux. And guys, what a progress… Totally flabbergasted by the remarkable stability obtained, we are now thinking of moving more of our developments to Linux, Unix and Mac OSX.
Goldmund Wireless Network is open to Apple computers for control
To answer a very frequent demand from potential users of our Chiasma Wireless network, yes, you may also use an Apple instead of a PC to replace a Remote in the Chiasma Network. But since the GoldMan program (the remote module of the Library software) is written for Windows, you will need to install the Virtual PC program written by Microsoft for the Apple. We did it in our demo center in Los Angeles, and it works gracefully.
And yes, for those who want to know, we are also very strong supporters of Apple.
It feels so good to find quality and brains in the IT industry…
