The new Mimesis 24 filter capability and its applications
The newly available Mimesis 24 software that includes filtering capacity is far more powerful than first users found out. Even with the maximum filter quantity limited to 16 and the output channels limited to 16, the number of possible applications is quite impressive:
1 - Bass Management.
Many users of cheap Home Theater speakers wondered why we did not display in our Home Theater configurators some Bass Management. Now they have the answer. Rather than using bad-sounding cheap bass management provided by standard software, Goldmund kept this to be properly handled by its own filter software.
In addition, some extremely sophisticated bass management may be beneficial when remixing channels to side or rear speaker. Again, the quality of the Goldmund Solution and its flexibility has nothing in common with standard solutions provided by other manufacturers.
2 - Electronic Crossover.
Remember the first Levinson Crossovers ? Used to electronically separate driver’s bandwidth in speakers system assembled from various drivers, or to 100% avoid the passive crossovers in a single-manufacturer speaker design (Like the B&W Nautilus), the electronic crossover usually suffers of not being of equivalent sound quality as the top preamps and power amps, ruining their time response and transparency.
With the new Mimesis 24 Filter software, this is over. The electronic crossover is very easy to configure, 100% transparent since you add nothing in the signal path, and extremely versatile.
3 - Speaker Correction Networks.
As Goldmund is doing in its own passive crossovers in the Epilogue and Logos, some passive crossovers are designed to correct the drivers non-linearities or to realign phase or impedance of the whole speaker. However, these corrections are difficult to design, they imply a lot of components in the crossovers and, because they work in the analogue domain, they are very limited in application. On the contrary, in a DSP program, the corrections are lossless, easier to design and virtually limitless.
This is why Goldmund is preparing some specific Filter configurations that are made to correct existing speakers (Goldmund and others) on some parameters. As per now, we are working on the Epilogue but also on the B&W Nautilus and some JBL models. More to be announced.
4 - Room Correction.
Even if a real sophisticated room-correction using a microphone requires a more elaborate software (in preparation), a good correction may be achieved by using a few simple low frequencies notch filters. And since it requires only a very limited measurement, any well-equipped installer or dealer will be able to help you determin the proper correction to apply in the Mimesis 24. And remember it will cost you no additional hardware.
In addition to the filtering capabilities, the new software also provides ultra-fine delay adjustment (by 10 microseconds) so speakers or individual drivers may be “moved” in space very progressively (3mm or 1/8”) when adjusting an electronic crossover or correcting an improperly time-aligned speaker system.
New Goldmund Phono stage
We have not manufactured a phono stage since 1995 but our old Goldmund Turntable customers kept complaining for a long time and we decided to help them getting a better sound from their Goldmund Vintage table or tone-arm by providing them again with a phono stage of same quality than the best Goldmund analogue electronics. It will be done in a few weeks. Features will include MM/MC cartridge capability, the use of the famous Goldmund “MC” circuit that keep level equivalent with most cartridges, independant resistance and capacitance adjustment for each cartridge channel, etc…

Goldmund opens its first US Goldmund Store in Manhattan
This is just the beginning, and you will see us more and more opening Goldmund Stores around the world. But we are very proud to have opened with our friends of Rhapsody the first in the USA just recently.
Even if there is only a single room for the moment, waiting for a new location, even if we had only the 18.4 as power amps for the Full Epilogue system because the new Telos 600 were not yet ready, this is already the only place in the USA where you may hear a Full Epilogue system properly installed by the Goldmund experts of Goldmund USA.
In addition, smaller Logos systems are also there for less fortunate users.
If you live in the area, or if you travel to New York, pay a visit to Bob Visintainer, the best guide you may find in a US store.
Rhapsody, who houses the Goldmund store is located 27 W 24th St, #502 in Manhattan, Phone (212) 229 18 42.
