Mimesis 16

A specific Configurator program is needed to configure a Mimesis 16 in a defined system. It may be installed easily on any windows operating systems and it is also used to download the resulting configuration to the Mimesis 16.

Configurator

The Mimesis 16 Configurator will allow you to:

  • Access and change the configuration used in a Mimesis 16
  • Reset the Mimesis 16 configuration to factory default
  • Add global video delay (0 to 250 ms by 1 ms steps)
  • Change the input channels used in output mix
  • Add fine delay to any input channel used in mix (0 to 20 ms by 10.4 us)
  • Add filters to any output channel

Download the Mimesis 16 configurator here: Mimesis16conf.exe.

Installation

You will first need to install the FTDI USB driver. For that, please follow the instructions listed in the document "Windows_XP_Installation_Guide.pdf" located inside the "Driver_USB_FTDI" folder.

The Mimesis 16 configurator executable ("mm16conf.exe") can be run from any writable directory of your computer, but you may want to copy it under the "C:\Program Files\mm16conf" and create a shortcut on your desktop.

Once this has been done, you should be able to connect the "CTRL" USB port of the Mimesis 16 to a computer with an USB cable, and to power it up.

You should now be ready to use the Mimesis 16 Configurator.

Process

Run the mm16conf.exe executable. The first thing to do is to choose the com port that the USB driver created (usually the last one, I.E. COM3). Note that the Mimesis 16 configurator automatically selects the last com port available. If the com port of the Mimesis 16 does not show, use the refresh button located on the left of the port list. (the "Refresh Ports List" command can also be found in the "Action" menu on the higher part of the window.)

Once you have selected the right USB port, you can press the "Get device config" to see the actual configuration. Edit the configuration, save it to a file, or load another configuration file according to your needs. If you press the "Send config to device", the configuration will be sent to the Mimesis 16, applied, but not saved on the device. You can listen to your changes, and if you are happy with them, press "save". Otherwise, press "cancel" to restore the previous configuration.

Firmware Upgrades

The Mimesis 16 internal firmware will evolve in the future to bring new functionalities or to correct eventual bugs. To upgrade this piece of software, the mm16fwloader (Mimesis 16 firmware loader) utility is needed.

You can get the release 1.1 here: Mimesis16fwloader.exe.

Future releases of the firmware will be available on this page.

The current version of the firmware is Release 3: DSP 2.3, UC 1.1 (The firmware version can be queried on a Mimesis 16 with the mm16fwloader utility).

To upgrade a Mimesis 16, follow the following steps:

  • Download the mm16fwloader utility package (see above)
  • Download the latest firmware package (see above)
  • Unpack both packages and read the instruction in the readme.txt

Frequently asked questions on the Mimesis 16 configuration

  • What is the difference between "delays" and "video delay" parameters in the Mimesis 16 configurator?

The "video delay" parameter is used to synchronize audio and video signals if the video signal is delayed in your system, for example by a video scaler. This delay is global and added to each output. Leave it at 0ms if you do not use any video signal.

  • I own a Mimesis 16 and an Epilogue 1 Signature. How do I use them together? Do I need some specific softwares?

No, you do not need any specific software, but you have to ask your Goldmund authorized Retailer for the specific configuration file. This configuration file can be uploaded into the Mimesis 16 with the standard configurator software. The configuration file contains the Epilogue 1 Signature crossover filter and the related Leonardo parameters. However, you must carefully respect the wiring instruction and not try to change any filter parameters. The actual configurator (v 1.0) does not check for Epilogue 1 Signature specific configuration. A future version of the configurator will allow custom filters to be implemented.
